Singles details

Great Fire (Andy Partridge

a) Great Fire / Gold

UK: 7", Virgin, VS 553, 22/4/1983 [p/s; ltd. ed. printed outer sleeve; custom label design]
Australia: 7", Virgin/CBS, VS 553, 1983 [UK p/s]

Notes

"Great Fire" was served as the appetizer for the forthcoming album Mummer. The main course, however, was delivered more than four months later.

In Britain, the original issue was put out with a limited edition see-through "kinetic sleeve" (the term used in the advertisement) that has a graphic pattern printed on it that, when the similarly patterned inner sleeve is moved in and out of it, gives the visual effect of a great fire burning and swirling. Later copies were released with the standard green/red labels and had no outer sleeve.

This single plays slightly longer than the track on the album.

b) Great Fire; Gold / Frost Circus (No.5 in the Homo Safari Series); Procession towards Learning Land (No.6 in the Homo Safari Series)

Australia: 12", Virgin/CBS, VS 55312, 1983 [p/s]

Germany: 12", Virgin, 600 852-213, 1983 [p/s]

Note

Referring to the tracks on the B-side, the cover says: "INSTRUMENTALS SELECTED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THIS RECORD".
